Title: I, too, can sing America
A colleague wanted to discuss 'I, too", a famous poem written by Langston Hughes, instead she sent me the words - 'I, too, can sing America.'
The discussion is over. However, here I am, pondering over her chance words. I have searched and searched, but found no mentions of this line. I have grown uncomfortable. I sit here rattled by the depth of these words. Just a chance utterance! Yeah! but what is chance? Messengers, I have heard, are formless.
An unknown ship has anchored over my shores.
"I, too, can sing America".
There can be no tweaking here. I wouldn't switch a single syllable Generally, first is the experience; next arrives the poem; and finally, one pens her a name. This is an incredible situation. The title has arrived - the experience, the song is nowhere in sight.
Amen.
